🇸🇴 Tawakal Halal Cafe
Started by a refugee from Somalia, this restaurant is truly a family business. Everything is made from scratch and made to order, and all of their spices are imported from abroad. They sought to put Somali food on the map, and, based on their repeat customers from all over the city, they certainly have. Their mission statement: you come in as a friend and leave as family.
🍻 Downeast Cider House
“It’s just apples. How can it be bad? It tastes delicious.”
Eastie staple Downeast Cider specializes in unfiltered apple cider. Their classic cider is made from five apples–and nothing else. With several variations of seasonal ciders blended on top of their original blend, there’s an array of flavor profiles (and alcohol percentages) to choose from. Don’t forget to take a pack home–and be sure to flip over and shake the cans to blend the flavors around.
