As the Roots of Music band plays, a pallbearer raises his hand to symbolize the number five at the funeral of Jerome “5th Ward Weebie” Cosey.

It was one of the many tributes Sunday to the bounce pioneer who died Jan. 9 at the age of 41 from complications from a heart attack.

Cosey was known for the songs ‘Let Me Find Out’ and ‘Get Out the Way.’ His funeral was held at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans, followed by a second line down Orleans Ave.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell and U.S. Representative Cedric Richmond helped eulogize Cosey. Many musicians were in attendance including Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews and Big Freedia.
