“My Amazing Cheap Date” explores fun, romantic, unique things that can be done in New Orleans — all for $50 or less. Host Amy Brassette-McKeon provides color commentary throughout the dates and is the ultimate decider as to which couple had the best date and most creatively spent their fifty bucks. The winning couple will receive a prize to local establishments so that they can have another awesome, free date.

In this episode, two couples compete to see who can have the best date for $50 or less.

Couple No. 1: Maya and Toni

  • Maya Laviolette lives in Gentilly and works in commercial real estate.
  • Toni Mar is an artist who lives Uptown. She’s working on a studio art degree

Couple No. 2: Lizzie and Ivan

  • Lizzie Parmenter is a copywriter who has a monthly comic called “Mouses” about mice who live at Rouse’s Supermarket.
  • Ivan Maduro grew in Baton Rouge and has lived in New Orleans for five years.

In this episode, couples are challenged to have dates with these themes:

  • Get a local sweet treat
  • Do an activity in a park
  • Have a vegan meal
  • See a show with a twist

Do an activity in a park:

Located in Uptown New Orleans, The Fly at Audubon Park is where the local go to play sports, picnic or just enjoy the great outdoors!

City Putt is a great way to get in touch with your inner competitor. Hit those sweet putts at this mini-golf course at City Park.

Get a local sweet treat:

I scream! You scream! We all scream for a cheap dessert! Who doesn’t love ice cream served in a freshly pressed waffle cone? With rotating flavors that are handmade, I bet you can’t visit Creole Creamery just once.

Although Sucre has a little bit of all things sweetly French from chocolate to cupcakes, they are probably best known for their macarons. With a wide array of flavors, no one will judge you for treating yourself to an assortment.

Have a vegan meal:

Carmo is the perfect place to go vegan! Owners Dana and Christina Honn opened this New-Orleans based tropical restaurant and bar in 2010.

At Vegan Wit a Twist owner Roy Joseph III takes food that you know and love and puts a tasty vegan twist on it. Vegan burgers and tacos are just a couple of the items on the menu here.

Why stop there? Here’s a local guide to some of the best NOLA Vegan spots!

See a show with a twist:

By day Capulet is a delicious lunch spot, but by night it transforms into a venue that hosts live music and drag shows. Capulet hosts live music and other events most evenings and you can check out their monthly calendar here.

Owner Branden Kempt bought Gasa Gasa during quarantine, when it went up for sale. He knew that this venue that hosts live music, comedy and art shows was an important part of the community that had to be saved.

Watch these dates in action and see who wins!
