“My Amazing Cheap Date” brings viewers along for inventive date ideas in beautiful New Orleans — all for $50 or less. Amy Brassette-McKeon acts as host, and judges the couples on who had the most fun $50 date day. The winners receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant from Very Local, allowing them to enjoy another few special hours in each other’s company for free.

Couple #1: Pamela and Andy

  • Pamela Otibu works at the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, but harbors a fondness for all things botanical.
  • Andy Bower is a musician and music educator who teaches at a high school in New Orleans East.

Couple #2: Stephanie and Terrance

  • Stephanie Osborne is a meditation and yoga instructor who savors the stillness in her day.
  • Terrance Osborne is an artist and owner of an art gallery on Magazine Street in New Orleans.

Great cheap date ideas: Getting your good food dance on, neighborhood foot tours, and buying a Brussels sprout seedling

In this episode, these two couples are faced with three challenges:

  • Tour the town
  • Share a fancy feast
  • Become one with nature

Tour The Town

Free Tours By Foot is, as the name suggests, a tour company that leads tours on foot through New Orleans. The engaging tours cover a variety of themes like food or neighborhoods, and customers can pay what they feel the tour was worth at its conclusion.

Share A Fancy Feast

Bywater Brew Pub is helmed by executive chef Anh Luu, who has pioneered a Viet-Cajun fusion brew pub menu for her clientele to enjoy. Tofu burger, anyone?

Shaya is the home base for modern Israeli cuisine (with a Southern twist, of course) in New Orleans. It’s a favorite date night location for a reason–make sure to try the fried chicken hummus.

Become One With Nature

Shopping for some fresh foliage at The Plant Gallery is a great way to bring some nature home with you. They’ve been open for more than 30 years and offer lighting, irrigation, floral arrangements and more, in addition to a wide selection of plants.

Wanted to hit City Park for a meditation session but got rained out? No worries — Oak Street Brewery is a local, family-run brewery in the Riverbend neighborhood of New Orleans. Bonus: it’s kid and dog-friendly, and offers board and video games to while away a rainy afternoon.

Bonus Challenge: Digest More History

The Southern Food and Beverage Museum focuses on the food, drink and culture of the southern United States. There are several sections that go into detail on different states around the South, and the museum also features the oldest bar in the city.

Bonus Challenge: Strike A Pose

ARTmazing Studios is a fun and interactive art gallery with more than a dozen different areas to snap the perfect picture. Grab your newest selfie in front of one of the butterfly murals, or cuddle with teddy bears inside a giant vending machine!
