Couple No. 2: Grouper and Sammye

“Grouper” Harrison and Sammye Levy met after Sammye stopped in for a beer after taking a stripper to work, and Grouper was able to get her number

Date ideas: Go to a unique museum, get your “mask on,” try a local aphrodisiac, and do drinks & entertainment

In this episode, couples are challenged to create dates with these four themes:

  • Go to a unique museum
  • Get your “mask on”
  • Try a local aphrodisiac
  • Do drinks and entertainment

Go to a unique museum

The Mardi Gras Museum of Costumes and Culture celebrates a variety of costume and carnival traditions, from Mardi Gras Indians to Carnival ball royalty, and gives people an opportunity to try on costumes for themselves.

The New Orleans Neon Art Museum is the place to check out vintage and artistic neon signs ready for viewing (and social media selfies), with lovingly crafted glass tubes full of neon gas spelling out words and images.

Do drinks and entertainment

Another Bar on Freret Street features drinks along with a variety of entertainment most nights of the week, including open mic music and comedy, skee ball competitions and karaoke. Even on off days, a ring toss challenge and other bar games help keep customers entertained.

Dos Jefes Uptown Cigar Bar is almost unique among New Orleans venues in that it still allows smoking, thanks to being licensed as a tobacconist. In addition to cigars, cigarillos, and plenty to drink, the bar also features regular live jazz.

Try a local aphrodisiac

Yes, oysters are said to be a local aphrodisiac, and they’re available in abundance at Nonno’s Cajun Cuisine & Pastries on North Claiborne Avenue. Saltines and the usual sauce accompaniments are naturally available, as are other tasty treats like fried chicken.

Sidecar Patio & Oyster Bar, a Warehouse District destination, features tasty cocktails and seafoods including, yes, oysters, that Gulf Coast aphrodisiac.
