The weather the past week was gorgeous! Sunny skies, a little breeze. Oh, spring was here!
And then, it got cold. And now it’s miserable wet. It’s really putting a damper on our festival spirits, because IT IS TIME!
Food like a warm hug
You know what would pick up our mood? Food, good food, like the kind of food that picks you up after a long day and folds you into its layers. That’s just what we found this week at Red Dog Diner. Winter is here! OK, so it’s technically spring, but HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is coming back! 🙌The series has quite a few ties to New Orleans. In fact, its creator George R. R. Martin rode in Endymion for about a decade after making local friends at a New Orleans science fiction/fantasy festival. Like we learned in Season 1 — chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. This is an opportunity. Where will your ladder take you? We’ve got a list of spots hosting GoT events and watching parties, so you won’t be alone starting the beginning of the end of the series, because while the lone wolf dies, the pack survives. 🐺
We could all use a good laugh
In the midst of this terrible weather, laughter is probably the best medicine. Lots of local companies got in on April Fool’s Day jokes, with mood-changing crawfish colors and 🤢hot dog water bath bombs. We pulled the best of the bunch to turn that rainy day frown upside down. 🙃

BlerdFest! | 11:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. | Algiers Auditorium
The two-part celebration is melanated nerds everywhere is having its first convention! During the day, an all-ages convention will take place, with Oscar-winning production designer Hannah Beachler as one of the guest speakers.
40th Annual New Orleans Spring Garden Show | 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. | New Orleans Botanical Gardens
Need ideas for your garden this season? Want expert advice on how to make those stubborn rosebushes bloom? Looking for new plants to adorn your front lawn? You can find all of that in the beautiful gardens at City Park.
Freret Street Festival | 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.| Freret Street, between Napoleon and Valmont
More than 200 food, arts and crafts vendors will take to Freret Street for this outdoor fest. Performers include ChaWa, dance demonstrations by Nola Capoeira and Margie Perez.

To celebrate the grand opening of its new $38 million exhibition center, the HNOC is hosting a block party! Food vendors are cash-only. Musical performances include Bon Bon Vivant, and the Storyville Stompers Brass Band.
Downtown Super Sunday | Noon | Parade starts on Bayou St. John at Orleans Ave.
Downtown Super Sunday is one of the few days you can see Black Masking Indians outside Mardi Gras Day. This event is more of an organized parade than Uptown Super Sunday, but like most things having to do with Mardi Gras Indians, who’s in the procession and how fast it’ll go is a mystery.
