Happy New Beer.
For our final (weekly) beer shoutout of 2019, I’d like to revisit three particularly exciting brewery openings from the past year.
In case you missed it, here’s our **back button on the browser** reboot; a look back at the moments when these three breweries opened in Pittsburgh.
- Cinderlands Warehouse
- Lincoln Avenue Brewery
- Inner Groove
With a nod to the past and an eye on the future – Happy New Year, Pittsburgh.
ABV, volume XLVIII
Cinderlands Warehouse // Strip District
Opening Date: May 7, 2019
Address: 2601 Smallman St // Pittsburgh // 15222
In the Past, This Building was Home To: Spaghetti Warehouse (restaurant)
We Enjoyed this Beer: Skydog (IPA // 6.6% ABV)
Know Before You Go: If you’re driving, park next door to the brewery (at 26th + Railroad St) inside THE HUB. Be sure to go thirsty AND hungry. Cinderlands’ made from scratch kitchen has killer food and during nice days, they open up the second floor rooftop patio for outdoor seating.
Cinderlands was the ONLY Pittsburgh-area brewery to be named among Hop Culture magazine’s Ten Best Breweries of 2019.

Lincoln Avenue Brewery // Bellevue
Opening Date: July 27, 2019
Address: 538 Lincoln Ave // Bellevue // 15202
In the Past, This Building was Home To: A dentist office
We Enjoyed this Beer: Bulldog DIPA (Double IPA // 8% ABV)
Know Before You Go: Lincoln Ave is doing a ton of things right. In the event that they fall behind on supply, their team will feature guest taps (you can enjoy OTHER local breweries’ beer at Lincoln Ave, depending on what’s available). Their kitchen is putting forward thoughtfully prepared dishes, including charcuterie boards and sandwiches that pair well with beer. The brewery’s launch officially marks the end of Bellevue being a dry borough. Lincoln Avenue Brewery owner Grant Saylor was instrumental in helping Bellevue emerge from dry status during the May 2015 primary election.

Inner Groove Brewing // Verona
Opening Date: June 15, 2019
Address: 751 E Railroad Ave // Verona // 15147
In the Past, This Building was Home To: A home interior design store that showcased fabric, wallpaper and even had fully staged rooms that included a black and gold toilet.
We Enjoyed this Beer: First Born Unicorn (Pale Ale // 5.7 % ABV)
Know Before You Go: Inner Groove is Verona’s first brewery. Their name draws from the four owners’ love of music, particularly the “inner groove” one can find on a vinyl record. Their recent collaboration with Oakmont Bakery resulted in a festive, holiday-themed brown ale (made using actual gingerbread cookies) called the ‘Ginger Bell Rock’
