Stuck in our homes, the city’s cultural organizations could have closed their doors and waited for this crisis to pass. Instead, they’ve done the opposite, by virtually opening their doors.
We may be stuck at home in the real world, but you can get out and explore the city with your friends in the land of 1s and 0s.
From an impromptu duet on Frenchmen Street to a social distanced gathering in Audubon Park to one-on-one confession in Lakeview to an eerily empty Jackson Square, New Orleanians spent the weekend learning to be together apart.
Although schools are not functioning in a recognizable way, the communities that exist within the schools are still pushing to provide for each other.
Obviously none of this will fully alleviate the hardships many of us will face during this emergency, but there is some help out there.
Instead of the usual St. Patrick’s Day crowds, Bourbon Street sat empty Tuesday evening, the day after the state shut down bars and curtailed restaurant operations in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
