The exhibit opens up after hours for an artist talk and public reception.

EMPIRE is a collection of collections. The colorful critique of colonialism and history on display at Newcomb Art Museum assembles objects from throughout Tulane University’s collections and re-assembles them into a single, site-specific piece examining the effects of trade, tourism and slavery on 300 years of New Orleans residents.

Like all collections, it’s never quite complete. The exhibit is opening up after hours tonight (September 6) with a new piece from New Orleans’ own Brandan “Bmike” Odums. Odums will speak on his piece “The Alchemist” in a discussion before the public reception starts. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore this crucial reexamination of history during NOLA’s 300th year and here from one of the city’s most vital artists.

Where: Newcomb Art Museum
When: September 6. Discussion at 6:30, reception follows.
