Your guide to get geeky in Nerd Orleans

In a city that enjoys cocktails, music and general nightlife, finding a joint to kick back and sling a 20-sided dice can be a challenge. But here are some places you can get your nerd on in the Crescent City.

It’s cool to be a nerd these days. We’re long past the days of wedgies and whatnot. And let’s not forget that EVERYONE seems to love things nerds have enjoyed for decades thanks to the Hollywood explosions of superhero movies. What a time to be alive!

This place gives the Bywater an extra life with a nostalgic arcade that has everything except the actual quarter-eating coin-op frustrations. With arcade cabinets featuring dozens of arcade and console classics, this is a MUST for gamers. Five dollars gets you a day pass and you can FINALLY beat “The Simpsons” or “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” without the need to raid your parents’ quarter jar like you did in the ’90s. While they don’t serve alcohol, the bar, Bud Rips, across the street has you covered.

Do you “settle”? Have trouble finding a group to hit Catan for hours? This place serves up coffee and a good nerd time with tabletop games a plenty. The walls are adorned with art next to Captain America’s vibranium shield. Grab a table and pick your poison of Risk, Catan or Civilization. Coffee and tea drinks have adorable nerdy themed names from “Doctor Who,” “Star Wars” and “Star Trek.”
We like the Tea. Earl Grey. Hot. Make it so.

I’m the Local Market Manager for Very Local New Orleans. I’ve lived in New Orleans since 2001 and been living my best life in this rad place since that year.
I have 10 years of broadcast journalism and digital media experience. Before Very Local New Orleans, I worked for WDSU-TV – producing, product developing, digital media managing– I’ve done it all. I’ve seen first-hand the trials we’ve suffered in this city and the celebrations we’ve enjoyed. I love New Orleans. It’s home.
I’m going to work my hardest to bring you the content and experiences you care about to live your best life here in one of the best cities on the planet.
I love finding things to do here – concerts, food, drinks, nerding out, etc. And I love sharing those things with others.
Contact me via email. Gimme a shout on social. If you see something you think we should know about, hit me up. If you see something that needs fixing on the site, ditto. I want this website to be yours, too. Not just one I manage, but one we as a community and New Orleanians use to help us live our best lives.
